A former employee of tech large Google has alleged that he was denied a promotion on the company for ‘being a white man’. Shaun Maguire,as per a report in The New York Post, labored at Google’s headquarters in Mountain view, California within the United States between 2016 and 2019. Maguire created a ballot on social media publish X (previously Twitter) in December 2023 asking, “Should I’m going public with the story in regards to the time I was instructed I can’t be promoted for being a white man?”. The respondents overwhelmingly voted ‘sure’.
On Friday (Feb 23), Maguire began a thread quoting this 2023 ballot and claimed that he obtained such a therapy at Google calling the company “an absolute trash can dumpster hearth”.
He subsequently made extra posts describing the incident and the therapy he claimed he received.
“I’m really not supposed to tell you this. It could get me fired.
But you’re one of the highest performing people here but I can’t promote you right now because I have a quota. My hands are tied. You’ll get the next slot. Please be patient. I’m really sorry.”

He additional claimed that since he made posts about his expertise, ‘as much as 5’ ex-Google staff contacted him and mentioned that they’ve skilled related therapy from the company.

The New York Post cited a supply inside Google who mentioned that when Maguire was at Google, the company was dealing with drawback with #MeToo scandals which led to formation of ’employee useful resource teams’ which demanded that Google rent extra ladies and different numerous candidates. The supply reportedly claimed that the strain marketing campaign even reached the company’s high administration, together with founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Google had termed this “fully unfaithful”.

Shaun is a talented investor and we wish him well at Sequoia, but decisions about his promotion and career advancement at GV not once ever involved consideration of his race or gender,” consultant of the company mentioned as reported by The New York.
After leaving Google in 2019, Maguire offered his cybersecurity agency Expanse for USD 1.05 billion.
