The MIT American Nuclear Society Student Section has gained the bid to host the 2013 ANS Student Conference in Spring 2013. A crew of greater than 30 undergraduate and graduate college students from the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT crafted the profitable proposal to deliver the convention again to MIT. The convention, which has grown considerably in attendance, visibility and stature over the past decade, has been hosted at MIT thrice beforehand, however not since 1994.
The proposed convention theme, “Public Image of the Nuclear Engineer” is aimed toward creating consciousness of political challenges and provoking younger nuclear engineers to have interaction with society in ways in which replicate positively on nuclear expertise. It is derived, partly, from the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering instructional hallmark: Science-Systems-Society.
MIT-ANS will movie and launch a video outreach mission on the 2013 convention titled “I’m a Nuke.” The aim is to break the outdated stereotype of nuclear engineers and introduce the general public to at present’s nuclear scientists and engineers — younger, various, and as Steve Jobs would say, “insanely nice.”
