    Jets of plasma might decelerate the spins of black holes

    Most black holes might spin much more slowly than anticipated. When black holes type from collapsing stars, they emit highly effective jets of power, and these jets decelerate the black holes’ spin to just about nothing inside minutes.

    The spin of a newborn black gap is ruled by two competing phenomena. When fast-moving materials in its orbit falls in, the black gap takes in power and its rotation quickens. But that very same consumption causes an enormous jet to blast away…
