For mathematician Hannah Fry, the definition of synthetic basic intelligence (AGI) is considerably hazy. But, she says, if we’re taking AGI to imply at the very least as good as most people on any job that entails a pc, then we’re nearly there. “I think AGI is really not far away at all. I really think that in the next five to 10 years, we’re going to see seismic changes.” New Scientist spoke to Fry about her love and fears for AI, and why we shouldn’t deal with it as god-like, with untouchable data.
